Eid-ul-fitr 2022 in Pakistan. How and when to Celebrate?

Eid-ul-Fitr is very awaited event by the Muslim communities. It is the day of joys. In this article we have provided complete details of Eid al-Fitr, with how and when to celebrate it in Pakistan.

On which date Eid-ul-Fitr 2022 is expected?

Eid-ul-Fitr 2022 (1443 Hijri) is expected on 3rd of May (Tuesday).

(This date is tentative as Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on 1st of Shawal according to the lunar calendar and the Gregorian dates keep changing every year in the lunar calendar.)

What is Eid-ul-Fitr?

Usually Muslims of different Fiqahs and different regions celebrate different occasions but Muslim community as a whole has two great occasions to celebrate. Eid-ul-Fitr is one of those occasions. This Eid is celebrated every year on 1st of Shawal (the 10th month according to lunar calendar) after the fasting month of Ramadan. Actually this Eid is an occasion of charity, special prayers, family visits, gathering and sharing gifts and foods to each other. This Eid is celebrated from one to three days and in Muslim countries these three days are public holidays.

Native Names of Eid-ul-Fitr

There are different native names of Eid-ul-Fitr in different regions or countries of the world like Persians call it “Jashn-e-Rozah Gusha” and Turkish people call it “Ramzan Bayrami” or “Seker Bayrami”. In Pakistan Eid-ul-Fitr is also known as “Choti Eid” or Meethi Eid.

Celebrations before Eid Day

Before the day of Eid-ul-Fitr people usually clean and decorate their homes. They buy new suits for themselves and their children and buy gifts for their friends & relatives.

Chaand Raat

            Another joyful moment before Eid day is “Chaand Raat”. Chaand Raat is the night with a new moon which signals the arrival of Shawal (10th month according to the lunar/Islamic calendar) after the month of Ramadan. Actually this is the moment when people come to know that they are going to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr tomorrow.

Chaand Raat Celebrations

            At this night people gather in an open area to see the new moon of Shawal. After seeing the new moon they congratulate each other by saying Chaand Raat Mubarak. Women especially little girls decorate their hand with henna (Mehndi).

Fireworks

           One of the things that are mostly liked by young guys at Chaand Raat is fireworks. At Chaand Raat young boys and girls gather in an open area to do fireworks. It is a harmful thing to do but young people really like it and enjoy it.

What Usually Muslims do on the Day of Eid-ul-Fitr?

On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr in addition to the usual routine, Muslims wear new suites and get ready to offer a special prayer.

Sadqah-tul-Fitr

              Before offering Eid Namaz, Muslims (not all the Muslims but those who are enough wealthy to give money to the poor & needy people) have to give an amount of money named as “Sadqah-tul-Fitr” or “Fitranah” to the poor and needy people so that they might be able to enjoy this moment too.

Eid Prayer (Eid Namaz)

              The special prayer that is offered especially on Eid day is called “Eid Namaz” (this special prayer is only for male Muslims). For this special Eid prayer people of the entire city, village or a block gather in an open area like a large Mosque or Eid-Gah (A special area that is reserved for Eid prayers or any other religious functions only).

Greetings

             After offering Eid prayer people embrace and greet each other by saying “Eid Mubarak” that means “have a blessed Eid”.  

Foods and Dishes

             Women cook special foods and prepare dishes at this day, consume and share sweets & desserts to each other.In Pakistan, there is a special dish called “Sawaiyaan” which is prepared and shared to each other especially on Eid-ul-Fitr.

Gifts and Eidi

          The most joyful and happy moment of Eid for children is that when they receive gift and money from the elders. The special money that is given to the children on the day of Eid is called “Eidi”.

Gatherings

            Families and friends get together to enjoy this beautiful and happy occasion. They spend their time and enjoy gossips with each other. Some people go for outings to see the beautiful places near them.

Cultural Activities

             Different regions and countries celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr in a different way. In many regions of the world there are special cultural shows and performances are organized by Muslim during Eid holidays. People usually wear their cultural dresses and in some countries even cultural musical events are organized.
